First Quarter Moon - Libra Sun square Capricorn Moon

The waxing square between the Sun and the Moon takes place in cardinal signs, accentuating the activation of the beginning phase of the moon cycle. The Sun is the primary driver for the modality as the Moon makes aspect to it, and each cardinal sign marks the beginning of a new season. Changes are instigated as a new cycle begins around us. While the Sun activates the greater changes, the Moon offers an opportunity for integration and translates what is taking place externally into our internal experience. The new, waxing square, and full moon of this cycle all fall in cardinal signs marking an alignment between this external and internal dynamic. By the time we hit the waning square the season will be fixed.

With the Sun in Libra we have the lengthening of the nights. There is a coolness to this sign and this season as the world around us begins to rebalance. Judgments can be harsh as darkness brings discretion, but there is still an underlying beauty to this time. Libra seeks inner peace by bringing the outer world into alignment with their ideals, and Libra sees the world with sparkles and rainbows. Finding hope through love and connection that not only survives but thrives when faced with the truth of the soul.

The Moon triggers the square from Capricorn and the earth influence here often conflicts with the airy idealism of Libra. Capricorn requires practicality. What are fancy words if they fall flat in earthly application? This is the sign that begins on the longest night of the year. When faced with darkness they pull another way, existing to overcome hardship. For Capricorn the warm days of the year will always fall far from them. The Moon here can seem harsh and discriminating but it respects discipline and is driven to accomplishment.

The tension between the Sun in Libra and the Moon in Capricorn pulls us forward towards the culmination of the full moon. The push and pull of the cycle between our egoic and emotional being connects us with the greater cycles around us. We may strive for harmony but we also know that it takes work. This is a reminder that real change is manifested not just through thought and communication but through doing.

  • Moon conjunct Ceres in Capricorn, square Vesta in Libra, trine Vesta in Virgo

The Moon in Capricorn conjuncts Ceres, makes a cardinal square to Juno in Libra, and an earth trine to Vesta in Virgo bringing a focus on the energies of the goddess asteroids in this moon phase. Asteroids always highlight interactions at the community level. The connection with Ceres indicates our emotional understanding is in alignment with the nurturing mother and the cycle of growth and loss. The square to Juno brings tension between our contractual partnerships and how we care for our communal family, this is prone to manifest as tension between our relationships and career. The trine to Vesta harmonizes the sacred fire that we tend to for our community with Ceres’ cycles of nurturing and care. In earth signs we see a physical expression of this duty.
