Libra season begins on the Fall Equinox, when the day and the night occupy an exactly equal amount of time. The year progresses as we move past the scalding heat of summer and feel the first breaths of tantalizing coolness. The world around us falls back into balance and the natural beauty of the harvest season emerges. As the lifegiving heat of the Sun occupies less of the day the cooling nights are a welcome reprieve. Libra is ruled by the direct expression of Venus. Looking around at the natural beauty of the season it is not hard to see why this time, like Taurus in late April and early May, is ruled by the planet of love and beauty. Libra placements have a natural eye for artistic balance and naturally attract and pull in the attention of those around them. They seek harmony in their environments and harmonize naturally with other people.

Libra is the sign of cardinal air and it is here, one on one, that ideas are created that change ourselves and the world. Talking with a partner or a friend we can receive input that refines our vision. Libras have a gift for crafting and expressing their view of reality, thriving in artistic pursuits. The meaning of the card stays significantly the same, but highlights how different ideologies can have different relationships with the same energy. Waite saw the card as exemplifying the triumph of logic and intuition resulting in equity and rightness, as justice through acts of law. Crowley focused on achieving balance through adjustment, on directing destiny through choices based on integrity. Libra is both. It is fluid and active, seeking rightness and balance.
