Scorpio Season

The Sun has moved into Scorpio and spooky season begins. Scorpio season welcomes in the time of the dead as life wanes away and darkness gains prominence. The costs of summer growth can’t be maintained and debts are called due. Scorpio is the sister sign of Taurus, and while Taurus holds the physical wealth, Scorpio is the one that keeps the books. Around us plants start to die off as energy becomes scarce. For our ancestors this was a time to evaluate the harvest and the necessities of the coming season. To leave ourselves to the whim of nature means death or migration. Scorpio placements feel comfortable here in the darker aspects of life and often have an obsession with the macabre.

Scorpio placements are noted for their mysterious power, intuitive perception, and a curiosity that can’t help but get to the bottom of an investigation. They project an aura of confidence that can be a protective mechanism. These placements have had their trust broken and their illusions stripped away, giving them a unique glimpse at the dark underbelly of the world. They are focused, determined, strong, and strong. When they love, they love all the way, giving their entire heart. An unhealed Scorpio can be vindictive and intentionally hurtful in an attempt to control the power in a given situation.

Ruled by Mars

Scorpio is ruled by Mars and these placements direct the passion and intensity of the planet. A sexual nature can be either wielded to gain power and notoriety or conversely be applied to the native Scorpio as unwanted envy or sexual attention. The world forces Scorpios to either dominate or be dominated. Without an awareness of their darker tendencies the aggressive rule of Mars leads to spiteful behavior and when a Scorpio feels driven to it they will purposely inflict pain.

Modality and Element - Fixed Water

Scorpios are also known for insatiable pursuits that can lead to obsession. This is an energy that exemplifies emotional strength. Like all fixed signs these placements have a tendency to stagnate, though here it is emotive in nature. Scorpios will focus, and often hyperfocus, their romantic attention on one partner in a situation that can lead to intense emotional conflict. Scorpio has an unwavering determination to be true to themselves and their feelings.

Lives in the 8th House

This is a time when the world seems to turn inward. Scorpio’s are known for intense privacy and avid curiosity about what others keep hidden. Theirs is the realm of taboo and mystery. Through secrets they become empowered. Likewise the eighth house shows that which others keep hidden from us. This is the house of death, though this is understood to be cyclic, and here we must let go of that which has stagnated and no longer serves us in order to find our deepest truth.

Tarot - Death

The Death card in tarot indicates an ending. This can be a physical death but is more likely to be the passing from one state to another. You see, death is the secret of creation. As you enter a dark period of incubation something must be released. The path that seemed so sure before is gone. Prepare to be born anew.
